Hi

I have been using LWA since several years now.
My archive file has become 6 GB big, and there are tenthousands of entries in it

time to do a clean, i would like to backup the older files, e.g. older than jan 2011, and afterwards remove them from my current archive

but how to do this? any suggestions?

The the included Backup/Restore feature you can only backup an entire archive, not just documents older than a specific date. Probably you can use a third party tool that supports that, all documents are saved as single files.

Good thinking.

It would be a good idea to have something that made this easier.

How about creating a copy of the archive and deleting from it entries after January 2011. That would be quicker than the other way round.

It would help of LWA could create a duplicate archive internally. But it looks like we have to do this outside LWA. Or you could do it by messing around with backups.

Maybe Martin could advise on how to go about this safely.

In general, it would be nice to have more ways to work with LWA and WSW. For example, I have never really found a way to change the name of a database.

Not sure if features like "Duplicate archive" and "Delete everything before specified date" would be a good addition. It has not been suggested before, so I'm really unsure if it would be helpful to the majority of our users.

If you want to go the route with a duplicate archive I can only describe the way I would for example go.

1. Create a new archive in LWA
2. Close LWA
3. Use a file manager of choice (I personally use TotalCommander) and copy the content (all folders and files) of the source archive to the target archive
4. Start LWA
5. Select the command "Archive" + "Reload folder tree" if you don't see all folders
6. Then you can sort by date in LWA and delete outdated documents you no longer need.

There are currently no features to rename a database or an archive, but this might be a nice addition that is now on the wish list...

Excellent. That's somewhat like the idea I had in mind.

It might be even easier with my favourite file manager, Directory Opus.

That's what I like to hear. Great response from spomepone listening to customer requests.

Running lwa 12.0a and when sorting on date it sorts first on name and then on date
