New company, new development plans, new update policies

Details Changes to our company and our flagship product WebSite-Watcher

We're happy to announce some important changes regarding the future of our company and our flag ship product WebSite-Watcher. Our mission is to improve WebSite-Watcher and make your work easier, more productive and more enjoyable.

With the beginning of 2008, we have established a new company called "Aignesberger Software GmbH". This step forward also leads to some changes in company politics, product development and update policies.

There are many new things and ideas we want to give you, but we don't want to hold all these new features back as long as possible to bundle them in a huge new version of WebSite-Watcher 5.

In 2008, a "smaller" WebSite-Watcher update will jump to version 5.0 and major new features and ideas will be implemented step-by-step during the version 5.0 life cycle. This gives us the advantage to react to user feedback as soon as possible and will also result in better code, product and feature quality.

Based on that philosophy, we move to a subscription based update model for WebSite-Watcher.

How does it work?

1. The initial purchase of WebSite-Watcher includes 1 year of free updates.

2. Once this year is over, you can renew your subscription and buy another year of free updates. The price is 50% of the full version.

3. If you decide not to renew your subscription, then only the ability to update expires. Your license doesn't expire and you can work as long as you want with a version that was released before or within your subscription year. You can renew your subscription at any time, also months later to get access to recent versions.

How does that all apply to existing customers who bought WebSite-Watcher before 01-Feb-2008?

For ALL existing customers, the subscription plan starts at 01-Feb-2008. That means that you will get all new versions for free until 31-Jan-2009, even if version 5 is already released.

We are very excited about this change in our business and we believe that you will get new features with better quality sooner, rather than later by holding them back for a huge version 5 update.

Congratulations to that step forward.

We have used too many products where support and development have been stopped after some time. We will of course renew our subscriptions to support continued product development since we use WebSite-Watcher intensively each day. Thanks for that great tool and the guarantee that it will still be developed and supported in future!

Sorry, I don't get it. I'm a customer since a couple of years so my subscription plan starts at Feb 08 and ends in Jan 09. Understood so far. In this time span I can download upgrades for free even an upcoming version 5, you say. But if so, why should I want to update to the latest 4.x as stated in the following sentence?

I use WebSite-Watcher Personal for over five years now and I'm still absolutely happy with it. I'm very satisfied that the product is still supported in future. Thanks and all the best for your new company!

The old update policy stated that all versions 4.x are free for registered 4.x customers, and we don't break this policy.

If you want to stay with version 4 for some time (and I'm sure some companies will), you can still use v4 hotfixes even if they are released after your update subscription has expired.

Thanks for still supporting and enhancing this essential gem. Best software ever!

What about the other programs (Local Website Archive or AM-Notebook)? Are there any changes too?
Posted By: Martin Aignesberger On: 11 Feb 2008 03:37 PM
@blogheim,

all updates for Local Website Archive 2.x, AM-Notebook 4.x and AM-Notebook 5.x (currently in beta) will be free of charge for registered customers.

The update policy for Local Website Archive 3.0 and AM-Notebook 6.0 might be changed, too.
