WebSite-Watcher supports a technique called Check-Macros to automate steps and operations on a web page. For example, you can record the steps required to perform a Login, navigate to the page you want to monitor, and perform a Logout afterwards. When the Bookmark is checked, these recorded steps are executed automatically.

Check-Macros can also be used to automate search queries, for example by entering a search term and clicking a search button.

Please note that it is not possible to automate all types of Logins and steps. This depends on the technology used by the web page.

Technologies

WebSite-Watcher supports different technologies to record and execute Check-Macros. Start with one method. If it does not work correctly, try the next available method.

Internet Explorer Macros are available for legacy reasons and work only with pages that still support Internet Explorer. This method is not recommended for new Macros and might be removed in a future version.

Method 1: Record Macros interactively

By default, Macros are recorded interactively. WebSite-Watcher captures and saves each step you perform while recording the Macro. This works with many page elements. If certain steps cannot be recorded, you can send keystrokes to the page as an alternative.

Steps:
1.  Create a new Bookmark.
2.  Open the Bookmark properties and click the "Check-Macro" button.
3.  When the macro window opens, enter the Start-URL.
4.  Click the button to start recording.
5.  Navigate to the page you want to monitor.
6.  Perform a Logout if required, and select the appropriate option to indicate that you are performing a Logout.
7.  Click "Save Check-Macro" at the bottom of the window to stop recording and return to the Bookmark properties.
8.  Click the "Check Now" button to test the Bookmark.

Method 2: Send keystrokes to the webpage

As an alternative to interactive recording, you can send keystrokes to the page to automate user actions, such as selecting elements, clicking links, or filling out forms.

Steps:
1.  Create a new Bookmark.
2.  Open the Bookmark properties and click the "Check-Macro" button.
3.  When the macro window opens, enter the Start-URL.
4.  Click the button to start recording.
5.  After the page has loaded, click "Save Check-Macro" at the bottom of the window to stop recording.
6.  Manually enter commands to send keystrokes to the webpage.
