The status column in the Bookmark list shows the result of the last check. If an error occurred, the status is displayed in blue.

Successful Check

  • OK
If "OK" is displayed, the check was successful. "OK" can also appear in combination with additional information.

Successful Check with Additional Information

If "OK" is displayed together with one or more of the following messages, the page was checked successfully.

  • Initialized
When a Bookmark is checked for the first time, it is initialized. WebSite-Watcher downloads the page and collects all data required to detect updates during future checks.

  • Warning: Frameset
The checked page contains a Frameset. WebSite-Watcher must download all Frame(s) defined in that Frameset. This is only a warning. It indicates that checking only the relevant Frame, if possible, would be more efficient. This warning can be disabled in the Bookmark properties.

  • Redirection
A redirection occurs when a URL automatically forwards to another address. The URL displayed in the browser changes accordingly. If such a redirection occurs during a check, this message is displayed.

  • Warning download size
Typical web pages range from 10 KB to 100 KB, sometimes more. If WebSite-Watcher downloads a page with a very large size, for example 1 MB or more, the page may actually redirect to a binary file that is processed as a normal web page. If the downloaded data exceeds a predefined size configured in the program settings, this warning is displayed. This is only a warning and does not abort the check.

  • Skipped
The Bookmark was not checked due to time restrictions defined in the Bookmark properties. You can use "Check Bookmarks (extended)" to check such Bookmarks.

  • Disabled
The Bookmark has been disabled in the Bookmark properties. You can use "Check Bookmarks (extended)" to check disabled Bookmarks.

Check with Errors

If one or more of the following messages are displayed in the status column, the page could not be checked successfully.

  • Warning: whole content filtered (please verify your filter settings)
WebSite-Watcher compares the filtered text content of the new version with the filtered text content of the previous version. If the entire content is filtered out, there is nothing to compare, and updates cannot be detected. In this case, this message is displayed. Open the Bookmark properties and review or adjust your filter settings. Use the "Test filter" feature to view the filtered content used for comparison. • Redirection via HTML commands not followed
HTML redirections are supported but are not enabled by default. If this message is displayed, you can change the Bookmark URL to the redirected address or enable HTML redirections in the Bookmark properties. In some cases, HTML redirections are required, for example when a permanent URL redirects to a URL containing a daily date or session ID.

  • Page not available?
The page was not available at the time of the check. The question mark indicates that it is unclear whether the error is temporary. You must verify whether the page is temporarily unavailable or permanently removed.

  • Access forbidden?
This message usually indicates that the page is protected by server authentication and requires a username and password. Enter the credentials in the Bookmark properties. See also the chapter Server Authentication

  • Timeout
The page could not be checked within the defined Timeout period. This may occur if the page is temporarily unavailable or if it is very large and cannot be transferred within the configured time limit. The Timeout value can be changed in the program configuration or individually in the Bookmark properties.

  • Error downloading page
The page is available but could not be downloaded completely, or the download was interrupted. This is usually a temporary server issue and may be resolved by checking the Bookmark again later.

  • Error: Page or file not found
The page was not available for an unknown reason, for example due to server issues or problems with your internet service provider.
