The Automatic Filters feature is a self-learning filter system. It provides an easy way to automatically create Ignore filters based on highlighted changes.


When to use the Automatic Filters System

Use the Automatic Filters system only when you receive a false positive, for example caused by:


  • A changing date or time
  • A changing visitor counter
  • Automatically updated comment or trackback counters



Examples of suitable changes:

Comments (7), Trackback (3)


Do not use the Automatic Filters system when the page contains relevant highlighted content, for example:

How to create Automatic Filters

Automatic Filters can be created directly in the internal browser by clicking the Automatic Filters button. This button is available in the "Page" submenu of the browser toolbar, or directly in the toolbar if configured.


Alternatively, open the Filter-Assistant in the Bookmark properties, select the Automatic Filters tab, and click the button "Create Automatic Filters".

The Learning Process

After clicking the Automatic Filters button, WebSite-Watcher displays a dialog showing:


  • The number of learned changes
  • The number of learned filters


In some cases, a filter is created immediately after activating the Automatic Filters feature. In other cases, changes are only learned first, and a filter is created after several learning processes.


Whether and when a filter can be created depends on the type of change. In certain situations, WebSite-Watcher cannot create Automatic Filters automatically.

When Automatic Filters cannot be created

If WebSite-Watcher cannot create a filter automatically, you must use the Filter-Assistant to define a filter manually.


Manually defined filters have higher priority and are executed before Automatic Filters.


Automatically created filters are deleted automatically when they are no longer needed. There is no need to maintain these filters manually.
